ABIX via COMTEX) -- Nielsen/NetRatings has released
the results of its latest research on Internet usage. The countries with the
most number of home Internet connections are the US with 166 million users,
China with 56.6 million, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom. Despite China
ranking second, having recently passed Japan, only 5.5% of its homes are
connected to the Internet, and Nielsen/NetRatings predicts it will be the
world's biggest market within four years. Its two biggest obstacles are that
only about 34% of homes have fixed telephone lines and the government exercises
strict controls.
